Blog comment spam is a real pain for most bloggers. It is disheartening to work on a blog, look for people to comment and find that some fool has tried to add their pharmaceutical link, or even worse, the latest celebrity scandal video link.
I do not take drugs, and I could not care less about the latest celebrity scandal. I have a life, it’s good, and maybe spammers should get lives too. It would help them.
It’s kinda like being in second grade, drawing a really pretty flower, and then watching some bully come up and try and scribble all over it. I still get the feeling of wanting to jab them in the head with my crayon, stand on my chair, and scream at the top of my lungs until the teacher subdues me. Yes, I was that kid.
If you have these feelings too, don’t dismay, you can install a simple free WordPress plugin called Re-Captcha, and it will make those spam monkeys so elsewhere. The link to the plugin can be found here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-recaptcha/, and the link to sign up and get the API Key for it to work can be found here: http://recaptcha.net/plugins/wordpress/.
Simply install the plugin, activate it, register and copy the key codes. Very simple.
This might not stop all of them from spamming, but I can guarantee that it will slow them down. Spammers are often lazy, and that is the secret to their game. They want it all fast, without work. Making them enter a captcha code will discourage them, and oftentimes, they will simply move on to the next blog.

It really is a pain to receive notifications that you have received comments on your post, thinking that all these are relevant to what you had to say, only to find out that they’re just trying to seek attention themselves. And that your post would receive a tantamount to a thousand hits, not because people want to read what you had to write and say, but because of the links these spammers provided as comments. Thank you so much for sharing the plug-in. I can now be assured that spammers will be at bay, and I plan on keeping them that way.
