When I first started my Internet marketing journey years ago,  I was totally oblivious about to how to market a website online for free.  This was before the advent of Web 2.0, and all of the social bookmarking tools became readily available.  It was easy to build a website, and try to optimize it with all of the right keywords, and have the home page looking great.  Sadly, I quickly discovered that unless I wanted to join about a thousand different traffic rotators, that I wasn’t going to be making any money anytime soon.

The funny thing is that I used to go around in circles trying to find out what other successful websites were doing with their meta tags, keywords, and backlinks.  This was all very frustrating because when I thought I knew how to get traffic to my website, the other websites would change, and I would be back to square one.  It was useful though because now I feel pretty confident with SEO.

Want to know how to market your website for free?  It is so much easier now to build a WordPress blog, and generate traffic by posting to it as often as possible, finding related blogs and adding useful comments, writing articles and submitting them, using social bookmarking tools, and making the most of RSS feed aggregators.

Do you know how I quit going around in circles?  I use a great tool that I accidentally discovered called SEOQuake.  It’s an add on for Firefox, and it’s great for scoping out your competitors and checking out what you need to do to rank.  If you are an internet marketer, get Firefox.  It is the best browser because of everything you can do with it.  It will give you the advantage.
